Researchers claim that it is larger than the electromagnetic field of the brain.
Recent research by the Institute of Heart-Math offers a hint as to why being with horses promotes two-way healing.
The electromagnetic field of the heart, which extends from 2.4 to 3 meters around the human body, may be measured using a magnetometer.
While this is undoubtedly noteworthy, what is even more astounding is the fact that a horse’s heart emits an electromagnetic field that is five times greater than a human’s (picture an electromagnetic sphere surrounding the horse), and that can directly affect our own heart rate. Additionally, it’s possible that horses have what’s known as a “coherent heart rate pattern” (which explains why being near them can make us feel better).
A coherent heart pattern, or HRV, has been shown in studies to be a reliable indicator of well-being and to be congruent with the subjective states of calm and joy. When we experience pleasant feelings, we display these patterns. A system that can recover and adapt to stressful events very effectively will have a cohesive cardiac pattern. Many times, all it takes to make us feel calm and at ease is being among horses.
In fact, studies have shown that spending time with horses has many physiological advantages for humans, including lowered blood pressure and heart rates, increased beta-endorphins (neurotransmitters that reduce pain), lower stress levels, fewer feelings of hostility, tension, and anxiety, improved social functioning, and higher feelings of self-efficacy, confidence, and empowerment.
